The Department of Orthodontics
The Department of Orthodontics is created like independent department in 1991 lead by Assoc. Prof. Liliana Dekova.
The students education of orthodontics includes two pre-clinical terms and two clinical terms in fourth and fifth yesrs of undergraduate education.
Preclinical programme
7th term
Lectures include growth and development of the maxillo-facial region; Basic orthodontic appliances and diagnostic methods used in orthodontic.
Exercises include takeing preassures, making an orthodontic casts and basic orthodontic appliances.
8th term
Lectures include basic diagnostic methods and dental arches deviations.
Exercises acquiring the biometric and cephalometric methods for diagnostic; prognosis and treatment plan.
Clinical programme
9th term
Lectures include mallocclusions; soft and hard tissue changes.
Exercises: each student has to make a diagnostic, treatment plan and treatment with revomable appliances of one patient.
10th term
Lectures include prophilaxis of malloclusions, combine orthodontic-prostetic treatment, combine orthodontic-surgical treatment relaps and retention.
Exercises: each student has 1 new patient and anotcher one previosly treated in order to control it's treatment.
The duration of the exercises in 7th, 8th and 9th terms is 2 hours per weak, and for 10th term 4 hours per weak. During each term the students have to pass one seminar and one test. There is a final examination after 10th term which consists of practical and theoretical parts.
Post-graduate education
The duration of post-graduate education is 3 years full warking time according to 'Erasmus' programme.
